Rapid Progress on the Construction of Terminal T5

Intensive structural and earthwork activities are underway at the Terminal T5 construction site. The simultaneous execution of reinforced concrete work and site preparation is enabling the opening of new construction fronts.

In recent months, reinforced concrete, road, and earthworks have resumed, and installation work has begun. Thanks to the increased mobilization of teams, it has been possible to move on to the next stages of implementation. Currently, advanced work related to the construction of the future pier is underway at the outbound pier. This includes the construction of foundation slabs and pier heads, which are a key element of the superstructure and will be used in the future for mooring vessels.

– Jack-up work platforms will soon be moored at the outbound quay. We are currently in the peak phase of reinforced concrete work, with progress at 85%.” “At this point, we have poured 26 of the planned 28 foundation slabs – said Artur Ciechanowicz, site foreman at the NDI Group.

At the same time, further reinforced concrete work is underway on the remaining quays and terminal components. Thanks to efficient material deliveries and good preparation of the work fronts, it is possible to smoothly transition to the next stages of construction work.

– We’ve received approximately 4,000 tons of reinforcing steel in nearly 180 deliveries and prepared the work fronts for reinforced concrete in the outbound, inbound, temporary, and ro-ro wharf sections. We’ve completed all CFA piles in these sections and moved on to installing piles for the crane girder on the landward side. We are currently in the process of relocating the container yard to open new work fronts for the gravel columns – emphasized Mateusz Szwaba, a construction engineer with the NDI Group.

Intensive earthworks are underway, including both the construction of overload embankments and structural layers for future road layouts. Here, too, the progress of the work allows for the gradual opening of new areas for construction.

– We have recently met the design requirements for soil consolidation under the overload embankments, which allowed us to obtain demolition approval and thus open up new work fronts. In the remaining area, we have already begun constructing the first layers of road embankments, on which geosynthetic layers will be laid in the near future – said Kamil Doroś, a construction engineer with the NDI Group.

Advanced reinforced concrete work is also underway on the inbound quay, where subsequent structural elements are being constructed. At the same time, the installation of precast elements and the construction of quay heads and slabs are proceeding simultaneously on several sections.

– On the inbound quay, we have already completed 26 of the 33 foundation slabs. A total of 60 concrete pouring stages for the abutments on the inbound and temporary quays are planned, of which we have already completed 51 stages of the lower abutments and are currently working on the upper stages. In addition, we have already delivered all prefabricated elements for the construction site – said Michał Banasiuk, a construction engineer with the NDI Group.

The project site is in full swing, and all teams involved in the project are working closely together to efficiently complete the next stages and reach the next milestone. The project is being carried out on behalf of Istrana and is co-financed by European funds under the KPO program and by the Polish Development Fund. The General Contractor is the NDI Group.
