The Next Phase of Construction on the Pradeł Bypass
Following intensive work carried out in 2025—including the construction of a roundabout, a municipal road, and engineering structures—work resumed this spring on the next phases of the Pradeł bypass project. The project is proceeding according to plan.
The project in the Silesian Voivodeship involves the construction of a bypass along National Road No. 78. A single-lane road is being built, designed to handle loads of up to 11.5 tons per axle. The project also includes the construction of additional roads within the right-of-way, which will provide service to adjacent areas and access to road infrastructure.
As early as 2025, key work was completed on the construction of a new roundabout along with connecting roads, which will in the future be part of a provincial road. An asphalt surface was laid on the roundabout’s central island and connecting roads, as well as a concrete surface on the roundabout’s ring and the crossing for oversized vehicles. At the same time, earthworks were carried out along the main route of the planned bypass.
A new section of the municipal road was also built. As part of these works, excavations and embankments were constructed, the subgrade was reinforced, and structural layers and a bituminous surface were laid. In terms of reinforced concrete works, the following engineering structures were also completed: a viaduct over the provincial road, a bridge over the Krztyń River, and a wildlife crossing over the Pradeł bypass, featuring a corrugated steel structure. In 2025, all power line crossings were also rebuilt.
– After the winter break, in March, we resumed work on the main route. We are currently conducting work related to reinforcing and stabilizing the subgrade, forming embankments, and preparing the subbase for the road surface. Finishing work is also underway, such as topsoiling slopes and backfilling around engineering structures. At the same time, construction of the storm sewer system, covered ditches, and the utility tunnel is being carried out – explained Wiesław Czereba, Construction Manager at the NDI Group.
In the coming months, earthworks and road construction are scheduled to continue, along with further work on engineering structures and the reinforcement of ditches and slopes. Soon, a change in traffic organization will be implemented on the temporary detour along the existing DK-78, which will allow construction of a wildlife crossing to begin. There are also plans to open the newly built section of the municipal road to drivers.
The project duration is 18 months from the date of contract signing, excluding winter periods. This is the second project in the Silesian Voivodeship carried out under the “100 Bypasses” Construction Program, with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways serving as the investor and the NDI Group as the general contractor.
