Construction of T5 accelerates as winter comes to an end
Intensive reinforced concrete and road works are underway, embankments for the terminal structure are being built, and in the near future, teams will begin installation work and the assembly of hydrotechnical equipment. After a period of winter weather conditions, the work is back on track, and progress is visible day by day.
By the end of 2025, works on the T5 terminal construction were highly advanced. In November, a key stage of the project was completed—namely the completion of backfilling works and the achievement of the second contractual milestone on time. Intensive reinforced concrete works were carried out on the outbound quays (foundation slabs and pile caps) and inbound quays (pile caps), in parallel with piling works using CFA technology, conducted 24/7 with three piling rigs. Ground improvement using RIC technology—compaction and strengthening of soil with a hydraulic
hammer—was also continued, along with the construction of surcharge embankments, serving a similar purpose: consolidation of weak soils for the terminal construction. At the same time, the team was preparing installations and verifying the road pavement design on a specially prepared test field.
Work progressing at full speed
Currently, after a challenging period caused by low temperatures and heavy snowfall, works have resumed simultaneously on all fronts (outbound, inbound, and temporary quays) in the area of reinforced concrete works. Additional teams have been mobilized, diversifying work on pile caps and reinforced concrete slabs. Frost layer removal technology has also been applied, enabling continued ground improvement using HEIC (high-energy impact compaction), RIC, gravel columns, and the construction of further surcharge embankments.
Winter conditions slowed down and, in some areas, temporarily halted certain work fronts; however, at the turn of February and March 2026, teams from NDI and subcontractors intensified efforts, accelerating the pace of works to ensure continuity of the project.
– Thanks to taking advantage of every opportunity to catch up on works, despite very unfavourable temperatures, we were able to prepare areas for reinforcement works, which we can now carry out. We are able to mobilize additional teams—both equipment and personnel—which allows us to work in several locations simultaneously – said Łukasz Jagalski, Deputy Site Manager at NDI Group.
Work is underway on constructing the embankments for the terminal structure, while new sections are being opened up for roadwork. Core installation works have also begun in the electrical sector as well as in sanitary and stormwater drainage systems.
– In the near future, we expect to complete road works, finalize reinforced concrete works, and accelerate activities related to structural layers for the final pavement – added Łukasz Jagalski.
At the same time, installation works and the assembly of hydrotechnical equipment will be carried out, ensuring smooth adherence to the schedule and efficient progress of the terminal construction.
Such a broad scope of parallel works demonstrates not only the advanced stage of the project but also the strong organization of subcontractor teams. The T5 terminal is steadily approaching the completion of its next construction phases. The project is being carried out for Istrana and co-financed by European funds under the National Recovery Plan (KPO) as well as by the Polish Development Fund. The general contractor is the NDI Group.
