We have moved a large dock at the Port of Gdynia!

At the construction site of a dock recess in the Port of Gdynia, the operation of towing a multi-ton floating dock to a newly built recess was successfully completed. This was a rarely seen operation, primarily because of the size of the dock. The investment project was carried out by the NDI Group.

The transfer of the dock to a new recess is a significant event for both PGZ Naval Shipyard and the Port of Gdynia. The new dock location will enable further overhaul and modernisation works for the Polish Navy, while also enabling the port to implement the new ship turning basin project.

Moving the dock means adapting the infrastructure to the new operating conditions of the port, while maintaining full capacity to carry out the shipyard’s tasks.

The stage completed so far includes the construction of a dock recess, but also comprehensive infrastructure works preparing the Port of Gdynia to handle vessels with much greater technical

parameters than before, and the port’s operational flexibility will also increase. This is a project that will have an impact on the entire region.

As part of the works already completed, three new quays were built: Southern (130 m), Eastern (43 m) and Northern (170 m), 424 CFA piles and 117 micropiles were constructed, 179 pipe piles and 578 tons of combined sheet pile wall elements were driven. Additionally, two mooring dolphins, each weighing almost 55 tons, were constructed, the dock recess and the adjacent water area were deepened to a depth of 16 meters – over 120,000 m³ of dredging works were performed, over 6,000 m³ of concrete and almost 500 tons of steel were installed.

What remains to be done is to shorten Pier II and perform dredging works at the current location of the Floating Dock. The whole project is to be completed in 2025. This is yet another hydrotechnical investment project by the NDI Group for the Port of Gdynia.
