Construction of the Pradła bypass begins

The first works related to the construction of the Pradła bypass have already started on National Road No. 78. This is the second investment project to be built in the Śląskie Voivodeship as part of the 100 Bypasses Construction Program, and the NDI Group is its General Contractor.

The scope of the contract includes the construction of the DK78 bypass, including the construction of a single-carriageway GP class road (main expressway), adapted to bear a load of 11.5 tonnes/axle, construction of a roundabout junction including connecting roads, as well as construction of access roads to service the adjacent area and to enable access to facilities related to road maintenance.

In February this year, key preparatory works were carried out, such as tree felling and necessary geodetic measurements. An inventory of existing roads and buildings was completed, an environmental report was completed and the area was checked for unexploded ordnance. As part of the cooperation and making the construction site available, in accordance with the investment project requirements, archaeological works were also carried out by the Contracting Authority’s Supervision.

Currently, tree roots are being cleared. Temporary traffic management is being developed and agreements with subcontractors and suppliers are being finalized.

Earthworks and the first infrastructure alteration works will begin in March. – The execution of earthworks, excavations and embankments will be of great importance for the construction of a roundabout-type intersection with connecting roads, which will definitely be the first milestone for us in this investment project – says Wiesław Czereba, Construction Manager at the NDI Group.

In the coming weeks, the relocation of conflicting power lines will also begin, or more precisely, the alteration of the medium voltage network in the area, which will also be an important point in the implementation of the project.

The Pradła bypass will be over 2 km long and will circle the town from the north. A roundabout-type intersection will be built along with the alteration of the existing section of DK78 with a length of approximately 1.2 km. A drainage system will be built along with road ditches, sections of the storm sewer system, retention reservoirs and devices for pre-treating rainwater and thawwater, which will be drained from the road area.

The construction of the bypass also means new sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths and exits, as well as vehicle inspection bays on both sides of the road. New structures will be constructed, including a flyover over the DW794 provincial road, a bridge over the Krztynia River and two structures related to the animal migration route, one along the planned bypass, the other over the newly designed road.

The task is carried out in the “Build” system. The investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
