The S-1 building is growing fast! An investment project at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków is underway

On the teaching campus of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, an advanced stage of investment project is underway, including the alteration, addition of floors and extension of the S-1 building. The project carried out by the NDI Group is a key element of the modernization of the central part of the campus, and will result in a multifunctional space that will meet the needs of developing areas of science and technology.

Construction works are carried out according to schedule and include a comprehensive scope of works – from demolition and earthworks, through geotechnical surveys, reinforced concrete works and assembly of steel structures, to the execution of internal systems and development of the building’s surroundings. The facility will gain a new architectural structure and significantly increase its volume and functionality.

The current S-1 building on the AGH campus will change beyond recognition, all thanks to the reconstruction carried out by the NDI Group.

– The building is located in a place where a very high level of groundwater occurs in periods, which is why its ground-level part is made using waterproof concrete technology. An interesting fact about the structure is that a significant part of it protruding beyond the outline of the foundation will rest on reinforced concrete hangers. Installation works will begin in the second quarter. The involvement of the entire team members allows all work to proceed according to schedule – says Maciej Stochmal, Project Director at the NDI Group.

The new S-1 building will perform a number of functions. It will house, among other things, the infrastructure responsible for managing the university’s IT environment, technical facilities, and laboratory spaces intended for the implementation of innovative projects. There will also be room for academic and student communities, including the AGH University of Science and Technology Student Government Council. The catering zone will also be reopened.

The modernization being carried out responds to the needs of education and research, and will also create the conditions necessary for the development of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The implemented investment project is also a response to the growing needs related to the integration of scientific activities.

In addition to construction work, technical installations will be prepared, including energy systems and a photovoltaic installation. The expanded part of the complex will have five above-ground floors and one underground floor. All spaces have been designed with maximum functionality in mind. The project investor is the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.
