DK91 under renovation – NDI Group is modernizing the Zawada–Siedlec Duży route

The NDI Group continues the alteration of a 5-kilometre section of National Road No. 91 between Siedlec Duży and Zawada, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network and is of key importance for local traffic. The investment project will improve the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The works are progressing according to the adopted schedule.

The modernized section of DK91 begins near the intersection with Długa Street in Zawada, then leads through the towns of Romanów and Siedlec Mały, to the border with Siedlec Duży. Under the concluded agreement, the consortium of companies belonging to the NDI Group is carrying out a comprehensive alteration of the roadway, including intersections, and is also building emergency passages. Additionally, noise barriers and new road lighting will be built and special herpetological fences will be included to protect amphibians and other small animals from threats.

Once the investment project is completed, the road will be fully adapted to handle local traffic. A speed limit is also planned, which will further improve the safety of residents.

– By the end of 2024, we completed the reconstruction of the left side of the roadway to the binding layer and then redirected traffic to this section. We are currently at an advanced stage of demolition and earthworks, we are performing soil stabilization, rebuilding culverts and underground infrastructure. Everything is going according to plan. We expect to complete the project in spring 2026, but we are doing everything to complete all the work ahead of schedule – says Marcin Bojda, Project Director at NDI Group.

This section of the DK91 has required renovation for many years. Its history dates back to pre-war times – originally made of clinker blocks, and the last major renovation was carried out in the 1970s, hence the common name of the route – „Gierkówka”. As part of the current reconstruction, all existing layers were completely demolished. For this reason, the NDI Group worked closely with, among others, the Provincial Conservator of Monuments.

The project investor is the Katowice branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The value of the contract amounts to over PLN 119 million.
