State Archives in Katowice – a time capsule has been cast in
A time capsule containing a document commemorating this investment project was ceremonially placed on the premises of the State Archives in Katowice. The document, as a symbolic memento for future generations, was signed by the General Director of the State Archives Dr Paweł Pietrzyk, the Director of the South Branch of NDI SA Wojciech Pałczyński, the Director of the State Archives in Katowice Sławomira Krupa and other participants of the investment process and assembled employees.
The investment project carried out by the NDI Group involves the expansion of existing facilities and the construction of completely new ones. Conference rooms, as well as modern storage buildings that will provide space for the safe storage of 20 current kilometers of archival materials are being built. The complex will also include a teaching and office facility where training in the field of securing resources for the entire archival network, workshops and demonstration lessons will be conducted.
– The materials belonging to the State Archives in Katowice contain a lot of information about the cultural heritage of this region, and as we know, the history of Silesia is very interesting. We are pleased that this modernization will contribute to the safe storage of all documents that are very important to residents, says Kamil Kasprzak, Project Director at the NDI Group.
The embedded time capsule contained many valuable memorabilia, documents, photographs and writings that will allow future generations to better understand the history of the Archive and the history of its construction.
The General Director of the State Archives, Dr Paweł Pietrzyk, pointed out that the investment project is in line with the slogan of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, which is „Security, Europe!”, because it significantly improves the conditions for storing and securing documentation located in the State Archives. The new premises will also make it easier for users to use the resources, expand the educational offer of the Archives and improve the work of archivists.
– The progress of construction works looks optimistic, and the embedding of the time capsule is a symbolic gesture that we leave for future generations. We are happy to host the General Director of the State Archives during this event. We are looking forward to the completion of the investment project and the possibility of using the new spaces – says Sławomira Krupa, Director of the State Archives in Katowice.
After completion of the investment project, which is scheduled for the second half of 2026, the total area of the State Archives in Katowice will amount to over 26,000 m², which consists of 5.5 ha of land in Katowice, on which 11 buildings will be located, and additional facilities in Gliwice and Bielsko-Biała, making it one of the largest Archives in Poland.
The project is financed from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
