Regional Road 450 in Kalisz is serviceable again – the railway viaduct has been modernised

The road section of Regional Road No. 450 in Kalisz, covering Częstochowska and Rzymska Streets, has been reopened to traffic. This is the result of the completion of the next stage of the investment on the section from Księżnej Jolanty Street to Antyczna Street, including the reconstruction of the railway viaduct. The investor is the City of Kalisz, and the contractor is NDI Energy.

At the beginning of July, in accordance with the schedule, traffic was restored on Regional Road No. 450 in Kalisz, covering Częstochowska and Rzymska Streets. The traffic restrictions lasted a year and were caused by the comprehensive reconstruction of the railway viaduct.

– The completion of the viaduct reconstruction is very good news for the residents of this part of Kalisz, but also for entrepreneurs and market users. The extended Regional Road No. 450, together with the already constructed new road connecting Księżnej Jolanty and Budowlanych Streets, will contribute to the revitalisation of the surrounding areas and increase the comfort of users of a safer and more functional road – stressed out Krystian Kinastowski, the President of Kalisz.

Until now, the viaduct had a limited clearance, which prevented lorries from passing through. It has now been rebuilt to meet the standards for this type of road. Work on the new structure was carried out while maintaining the continuity of rail traffic on one track.

Parallel to the work related to the reconstruction of the viaduct, work was carried out on the extension of the DW 450 road, including the construction of pavements and a cycle path over a length of approximately 1 km. LED lighting was installed along the entire section. The investment also included the reconstruction of the storm water drainage, sanitary sewage and water supply systems.

The investment is scheduled to be fully completed in the autumn. Finishing works and road works are still ongoing at the intersections where the bypass was previously in place. Another interesting moment will be the installation of stone cladding, which comes from the old structure and, after maintenance work, will return to the walls of the viaduct, allowing the historical and stylistic identity of the viaducts on the Warsaw-Kalisz railway line to be preserved.

The project in Kalisz is another investment that NDI Group companies are successfully implementing in the Wielkopolska Province.

The investor for the project is the City of Kalisz – the Municipal Road Management Board. The project was carried out with financial support of up to PLN 38,160,510.45 from the Polish Government Fund: Strategic Investment Programme.
