Pradeł bypass – work goes at full speed

Spring has brought a significant acceleration in the construction of the Pradeł bypass. The construction team is taking advantage of the recent favourable weather conditions and is simultaneously working on road infrastructure, bridge structures and other related facilities. Progress is visible both on the main route and within the roundabout, slip roads and the construction of engineering structures.

The investment in the Silesian Province includes the construction of the DK78 bypass, including the construction of a single-carriageway GP class road (main road for fast traffic), adapted to carry a load of 11.5 tonnes/axle, as well as the construction of additional carriageways in the road lane to serve the adjacent area and enable access to road service facilities.

Currently, the construction is entering the stage of intensive earthworks, ground stabilisation, implementation of the first structural layers for the future road and the commencement of specialist works.

Teams responsible for, among other things, forming embankments, strengthening the ground for future bridge supports, constructing a sewage system and rebuilding infrastructure that conflicts with the route are working simultaneously on the construction site. Preparatory work is also being carried out for the construction of an animal crossing.

– The scale and diversity of the work we are currently carrying out is proof of the enormous commitment of the entire team. We have very well-organised facilities and experienced specialists. Not all work has been able to start on schedule due to the need to approve materials, inaccuracies in the Project Documentation and unfavourable weather conditions. We have now completed the procedures and approved the necessary materials for reinforcing the subgrade and embankments –  said Wiesław Czereba, Construction Manager at NDI Group.

The bypass will be over 2 km long and will go around the town from the north. There will be a roundabout junction with slip roads and the existing section of the DK78 road, approximately 1.2 km long, will be rebuilt. A drainage system will be built, including road ditches, sections of storm water drainage, retention reservoirs and devices for pre-treating rainwater and meltwater, which will be collected from the road right-of-way, road lighting will be installed, and conflicting medium and low voltage lines will be rebuilt. The construction of the bypass also involves the construction of a new section of municipal road, access roads to properties, exits, as well as bays on both sides for vehicle inspection and road safety devices.

The coming weeks will see the continuation of key works, including earthworks, strengthening the subgrade for the future carriageway, construction of mattresses and overburden embankments to consolidate the native soil, as well as the implementation of further elements of the engineering structures.

The completion time is 18 months as of the date of contract conclusion, excluding winter periods. This is the second investment in the Silesian Province implemented as part of the 100 Ring Roads Construction Programme, with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways as the investor and the NDI Group as the General Contractor.
