Comprehensive modernization of DK91 completed
NDI Group has completed work on the alteration of a 5.5-kilometre section of National Road No. 91 between Zawada and Siedlec Duży. The project, carried out as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), included a comprehensive modernisation of one of the oldest routes in the region, commonly known as „Gierkówka”. Thanks to the reconstruction, the road has been adapted to current technical standards.
The modernized section runs through the towns of Zawada, Romanów and Siedlec Mały up to the border with Siedlec Duży. As part of the project, the road structure was completely replaced, intersections were rebuilt, including intersections with municipal and district roads, and the underground infrastructure was rebuilt. New sidewalks, access roads to properties, street lighting, traffic lights, acoustic screens and road safety devices were built.
The work was carried out while maintaining full traffic on DK91 and local roads. The project also required the removal of old structural layers and infrastructure dating back to the 1970s, when the last major modernisation of the route was carried out. It was then that the road gained the colloquial name „Gierkówka”, referring to the expansion of the road infrastructure carried out during the times of Edward Gierek.
From May 4, 2026, traffic on the altered section of DK91 will run on both carriageways. In recent days, finishing works were still being carried out, which locally involved temporary closures of traffic lanes, mainly on the left carriageway. On May 14, the last disruptions ended, making the route fully accessible to drivers and residents.

The implementation of the task with active traffic and the wide scope of work required very good coordination of all participants of this project. The result of our joint work is a modern and safe road. The entire infrastructure has gained a completely new quality – says Marcin Bojda, Project Director, NDI Group.
The investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Katowice Branch, and the general contractor is NDI Group. The value of the contract amounted to over PLN 119 million.
