Alteration of the district heating network of OPEC. A key stage in the construction of the intermodal terminal at the Port of Gdynia
An important stage of work related to the alteration of the high-performance heating network belonging to OPEC has been completed at the construction site of the intermodal terminal in the Logistics Centre of the Port of Gdynia. This is one of the key infrastructure elements in the city, responsible for the supply of heat to a large part of Gdynia. The works were a necessary step in the implementation of the investment project, which is expected to become in the future one of the most important logistics hubs in Pomerania.
The alteration covered a section of the network approximately 140 meters long, 40 meters of which ran on an overpass. As part of the work, water was drained from the system and then the pipelines were relocated and finally connected back. The connection work took less than two days, and after the welding was completed, X-ray tests of the welds were performed and, after obtaining the correct results, the pipeline was filled and its commissioning began. Next, the joints were sleeved (which ensures the continuity of the thermal insulation of the pipelines), the clamps were tightened and the fastenings were checked. Specialized self-propelled vehicles were used to carry out the work, which allowed for precise and safe work. Soon, working platforms will be installed on the overpass and the entire structure will be painted.
The first completed scope of sanitary part of the works was related to the alteration of the main sanitary sewer main, which collects sewage from a large part of Gdynia. The work included the alteration of two pipelines for PEWiK that conflict with the new terminal track bed. – Thanks to good organization and cooperation with network operators, the entire process of relocations and connections was completed faster than planned. Instead of the planned four days, the work lasted less than two days – summarizes Aneta Senk, Sanitary Works Manager at NDI Group.
The construction of an intermodal terminal at the Port of Gdynia is one of the largest logistics investment projects in the region. The project involves the creation of modern infrastructure that will enable efficient connection of rail, road and sea transport. The investment project will include the construction of a railway siding, transshipment yards, technical networks, overpasses and a retention tank. The whole project is intended to improve the efficiency of freight transport and increase the port’s competitiveness.
