Tricity is getting closer to Szczecin. Works on the construction of S6 are under way
Over 250 people are working on the construction of a 16-kilometre section of the S6 expressway connecting the end of the Słupsk bypass with the Bobrowniki junction. Road workers perform earthworks and works on engineering structures. This will be the first section of a expressway with a concrete surface in the Pomorskie Voivodeship.
The road under construction will be a dual carriageway, with two lanes in both directions and emergency lanes. Two road junctions will also be built – in Budy and Bobrowniki. The plans also include service roads and local roads crossing the expressway, as well as animal crossings, anti-glare screens and acoustic protection barriers. As part of the project, two Traveller Service Areas (so-called MOP), as well as a new road maintenance facility with a salt warehouse will be built.
Investment projects under the design and build formula are carried out by a consortium of NDI, NDI Sopot and Todini Central Asia. More than 16 kilometers of expressway between the junction in Redzikowo and the junction in Bobrowniki are being constructed. The planned section is located in the Pomorskie Voivodeship, in the communes of Słupsk and Damnica. The investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
First of all, discipline works and ground preparation
Since the completion of the design works and obtaining the ZRID decision (permit for the implementation of a road investment), a number of works have been carried out, primarily the removal of most system conflicts: power, telecommunications, high and medium pressure gas networks, but also water supply and sanitary sewage lines. The drainage network was altered. Process roads were created. Earthworks have also started, including excavations for retention and infiltration tanks, as well as embankments. Then, layers of improved subgrade and frost protection layers were placed on the main route and side roads.
– As part of the bridge works, we erected working platforms and prefabricated piles under selected facilities. We also carried out test loads, excavations for structure supports and concrete bases. We have started reinforcing the foundations and concreting them, and we have built ecological passages using spiral corrugated pipes – says Dariusz Horyd – Construction Manager from the NDI Group.
Currently, the area for the surface concrete batching plant is being prepared at the construction site. Further discipline works are being continued, including the erection of storm sewage systems, and earthworks on the roads are being carried out in the scope of excavations and embankments. In engineering structures, prefabricated piles are driven in, and the foundations are reinforced and concreted.
Big project, even more work
The construction of the S6 road also involves a wide scope of earthworks, which means over 1.3 million m3 of soil excavated during excavations and 1.05 million m3 during erection of embankments. The amount of cement-bound mixture foundation will be approximately 150,000 tonnes. 63,000 m3 of road base made of cement-bonded mixture and 80 thousand m3 of surface concrete will be built for the needs of the concrete surface.
– 267 people work on the construction of the S6 road, including managers, engineers, operators and manual workers. We all use different types of machines. Among others, 26 excavators, 60 trucks, 6 bulldozers, 11 rollers, 3 graders, 8 loaders, 4 cranes and 13 construction dump trucks are operated at the construction site. In total, over 160 pieces of equipment are involved, says Dariusz Horyd.
The length of the main route is exactly 16.04 km, while the length of the remaining roads is 20 km.
