New hall, new opportunities. The topping-out ceremony took place at the MTG construction site

The expansion of the AMBEREXPO complex is gaining momentum. Key construction stages have been completed, and a symbolic topping-out ceremony has taken place at the construction site. This is an important milestone for the investment project, which will significantly increase the organizational capabilities of the facility. The investor is the Gdańsk International Fair.

Intensive expansion of the AMBEREXPO complex managed by the Gdańsk International Fair is underway. The project at Żaglowa Street involves the expansion of the AMBEREXPO hall with a new exhibition space with a conference and congress function, as well as the construction of a hotel section, directly adjacent to the facilities built in 2012. The project is divided into two stages.

The construction and installation works, already completed in some parts of the project, have enabled the achievement of a state of advancement that made it possible to organize the traditional construction celebration – the topping-out ceremony. It is also a clear signal that the project is moving towards completion according to the assumed schedule.

The scale of the construction reflects the enormity of the work performed. About 700 piles were made for the new segments of the facility alone, and almost a kilometre of technical ducts was built in the hall itself. Since the beginning of the project, over 6,000 m³ of concrete and 650 tons of reinforcing steel, not including prefabricated elements, have been used. The works are progressing dynamically – so far, approximately 11 km of cables have been laid, and depending on the stage and scope of works, from 80 to even 120 workers are working on the construction site.

The most advanced work is currently on the hall – a key element of the investment project. The design of this space was based on lessons learned from the construction of existing facilities, with a strong emphasis on flexibility of arrangement, adding modern technological and acoustic solutions. At the same time, advanced installation and finishing works are underway in the back office building, and construction works in the hall entrance areal, located under the hotel part are ongoing too.

– At this stage, the biggest challenge is to coordinate many disciplines and teams working simultaneously on different sections of the project, especially in the roof area, and to reconcile this with the hall being still operational, where various events are continuously held. We managed to achieve a very good pace thanks to advanced planning, 3D modelling and full mobilization of the crew – says Dominik Kardynał, Construction Manager at the NDI Group.

The progress of work is visible from day to day. The expansion of MTG is not only an architectural project, but above all an investment in the future of events and meetings in Pomerania.

The total area of this investment project will be over 13,000 m2, of which the building area will be almost 6,500 m2. The hall is planned to be handed over for use in the third quarter of 2025, while the entire construction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026. The General Contractor is the NDI Group, and the Investor is the Gdańsk International Fair.
