Construction of the State Archives in Katowice is coming to an end
The construction of the State Archives in Katowice, for which the NDI Group is carrying out the construction, extension and superstructure of a number of buildings, is already showing tangible results. In the coming months, it is planned to complete the installation and finishing works, and then proceed with the acceptance procedures.
The investment carried out by the NDI Group consists of the construction of three new buildings and the reconstruction of three existing ones. All of them have been connected by a network of connectors, which will allow for the transport of archives between individual zones or rooms to take place under controlled conditions, without going outside.
The project also includes conference rooms and modern storage buildings, which will provide a place for the safe storage of current archival materials. The complex will also include an educational and office facility, where training courses on resource security for the entire archival network, workshops and demonstration lessons will be held.
-We are currently carrying out finishing works in most of the buildings on the construction site. We are completing works related to the road layout in the outdoor area. We have encountered a number of difficulties in this regard, as we are located on the premises of a functioning institution and have to share the site with the employer, understanding their needs in terms of movement around the site by Archive employees, but also by outsiders, customers and stakeholders – said Kamil Kasprzak, Project Director at NDI Group.
All work related to the development of the area with greenery will be completed within the next three months.
All storage rooms where the archives will be kept will be equipped with a precision air conditioning system, which will ensure that the documents, many of which are several hundred years old, are stored in the best possible conditions, which are closely monitored and supervised.
– As part of the construction, we are also to supply shelving with a capacity of several kilometres of files. This clearly shows how many more documents the State Archives will be able to add to its collection in the coming years, and I think even decades – concluded the Project Director.
The implementation of this investment will allow the Employer to significantly increase its capacity to store historical documents that are important for the Upper Silesia region.
The total area of the State Archives in Katowice will be over 26,000 m², consisting of 5.5 ha of land in Katowice, on which 11 buildings will be constructed, as well as additional facilities in Gliwice and Bielsko-Biała, making it one of the largest archives in Poland.
The cost of the investment is over PLN 80 million gross.
