Construction of the Intermodal Terminal moving closer to completion
Less than 15 months after the NDI Group commenced works, the construction of the Intermodal Terminal on the premises of the Gdynia Port Logistics Centre is nearing its final handover. The investment project encompasses a railway siding, handling yards and the technical infrastructure indispensable for servicing intermodal transport.
Currently, works related to the construction of underground utility infrastructure, the execution of storage yard and road pavements, as well as the track layout of the railway siding have been concluded. The newly built infrastructure will enable efficient handling of intermodal transport.
‘We are currently delivering one of the final stages of the railway works, which is the track stabilisation and alignment using a tamping machine equipped with a dynamic track stabilisation module. This is a critical process that will ensure the appropriate operational parameters of the new infrastructure,’ says Wojciech Krugły, Deputy Project Director and Railway Works Manager at NDI Group.
Only finishing works within the area of the new attenuation tank, closing and finishing the terminal fencing, landscaping through ground levelling, preparing green spaces, and executing final site clearance works remain to complete the investment project.
‘We are approaching the completion of an investment project that will significantly increase the logistical capabilities of the Port of Gdynia. The new terminal will allow for more efficient integration of maritime, rail and road transport, thereby increasing the share of rail in cargo handling and strengthening our connections with the European transport network. At the same time, dual-use infrastructure is being established, adapted both to economic needs and the efficient movement of heavy equipment. This demonstrates that port development, competitiveness and security are elements of a single, consistently implemented strategy,’ says Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Management Board of the Port of Gdynia Authority SA.
Very soon, the state-of-the-art Intermodal Terminal will become an important element of the infrastructure at the Gdynia Port Logistics Centre, increasing handling capacities and supporting the development of intermodal transport in the region. The contract value amounts to over 80.2 million PLN gross. The General Contractor is the NDI Group.
